What to bring

  • Eye and ear protection
  • Your firearm, unloaded and cased
  • The right ammunition for your firearm
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Targets and a stapler if the range does not provide them
  • Water, especially at outdoor ranges

The basic safety rules

  • Treat every gun as if it is loaded.
  • Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
  • Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Range etiquette

Listen to the range officer, follow cease-fire calls right away and never go forward of the firing line while anyone is shooting. Ask questions. Range staff would rather explain than fix a problem.
